Functional Dyspepsia (Postprandial Distress) clinical criteria.

Clinical Presentation & Protocol

Patient Usually Complains Of

Patient presents with persistent postprandial fullness and early satiety occurring at least 3 days per week. Symptoms are not explained by structural disease. No evidence of alarm features (weight loss, dysphagia, anemia, or persistent vomiting). Symptoms interfere with normal activities.

Clinical Examination Findings

Abdominal examination: Soft, non-distended, non-tender to deep palpation. No organomegaly or palpable masses. Bowel sounds present and normal. No signs of peritoneal irritation. Cardiovascular and pulmonary exams within normal limits.

Treatment Protocol

Initiate trial of Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) once daily before breakfast. Consider prokinetic agent (e.g., itopride or metoclopramide) if symptoms persist. Advise dietary modifications: smaller, frequent meals; avoid high-fat and spicy foods. Stress management and lifestyle counseling recommended.
