Clinical Criteria for Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD).

Clinical Presentation & Protocol

Patient Usually Complains Of

Patient presents with symptoms suggestive of peripheral arterial disease. Chief complaint of [claudication/rest pain/non-healing ulcer]. Symptoms are exacerbated by [exertion/elevation] and relieved by [rest/dependency]. Associated symptoms include [paresthesia/coldness/color changes]. History significant for [smoking/diabetes/hypertension/hyperlipidemia].

Clinical Examination Findings

Physical examination reveals [diminished/absent] peripheral pulses (dorsalis pedis, posterior tibial, popliteal, femoral). Skin assessment shows [atrophic changes/hair loss/shiny skin/dependent rubor/pallor on elevation]. Capillary refill time is [prolonged/normal]. Presence of [ulceration/gangrene/necrosis] noted at [location]. Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) measured at [value].

Treatment Protocol

Treatment plan includes: 1. Smoking cessation counseling. 2. Pharmacotherapy: Antiplatelet agent ([Aspirin/Clopidogrel]), Statin therapy, and Cilostazol for claudication. 3. Risk factor modification: Glycemic control and blood pressure management. 4. Supervised exercise program. 5. Referral to Vascular Surgery for [revascularization/angioplasty/bypass] if indicated.
