Clinical Presentation & Protocol
Patient Usually Complains Of
Patient presents with a chronic, insidious onset of intermittent hip/knee pain and a persistent antalgic gait. No history of acute trauma. Symptoms exacerbated by physical activity and relieved by rest. No systemic signs of infection (fever, chills).
Clinical Examination Findings
Physical exam reveals limited range of motion in the affected hip, particularly internal rotation and abduction. Positive Trendelenburg sign may be present. Muscle atrophy of the thigh may be noted. Neurovascular status is intact distally.
Treatment Protocol
Management plan includes activity modification, physical therapy to maintain joint range of motion, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for pain management. Orthopedic referral for containment therapy (bracing or surgical osteotomy) based on Waldenstrรถm stage and Herring classification.
