Patient Usually Complains Of
Patient presents with complaints of thoracic back discomfort and a noticeable rounding of the upper back. Symptoms are primarily associated with prolonged static posture and fatigue. Denies radicular symptoms, neurological deficits, bowel/bladder dysfunction, or constitutional symptoms. Pain is described as dull, aching, and intermittent, exacerbated by sedentary activities and relieved by postural correction and physical activity.
Clinical Examination Findings
Physical examination reveals an exaggerated thoracic kyphosis that is flexible and fully correctable upon active extension or prone positioning. No fixed deformity or structural vertebral abnormalities noted. Shoulder protraction and forward head posture are present. Neurological examination is intact with normal strength, sensation, and reflexes in all extremities. Gait is stable and non-antalgic.
Treatment Protocol
Treatment plan focuses on conservative management. Prescribed physical therapy emphasizing thoracic extension exercises, scapular stabilization, and core strengthening. Ergonomic assessment of workspace recommended. Analgesics (NSAIDs) as needed for symptomatic relief. Follow-up in 3 months to monitor progress and compliance with postural correction program.
