Patient Usually Complains Of
Patient presents with progressive left knee pain, swelling, and stiffness. Symptoms exacerbated by weight-bearing and prolonged activity. Reports sensation of tightness and fullness within the joint. No history of acute trauma, fever, or systemic symptoms.
Clinical Examination Findings
Left knee examination reveals visible suprapatellar effusion and synovial thickening. Palpation demonstrates warmth and tenderness along the joint line. Range of motion is limited by pain and mechanical restriction due to effusion. Patellar ballottement test is positive. Neurovascular status intact distally.
Treatment Protocol
Initiate conservative management with RICE protocol (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation). Prescribe non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Consider therapeutic arthrocentesis if effusion is symptomatic. Recommend physical therapy for quadriceps strengthening and gait optimization. Follow-up in 2-4 weeks.
