Clinical Presentation & Protocol
Patient Usually Complains Of
Patient presents with progressive loss of joint range of motion (ROM) following severe thermal injury. Symptoms include localized pain, swelling, and palpable induration near the affected joint. Onset noted [Timeframe] post-burn, with increasing stiffness and functional limitation in activities of daily living. No history of recent trauma or infection.
Clinical Examination Findings
Physical examination reveals localized, firm, non-mobile, subcutaneous mass near [Joint Name]. Overlying skin is intact without erythema or warmth. Significant restriction in passive and active ROM noted. Neurovascular status distal to the lesion is intact. Tenderness to deep palpation present.
Treatment Protocol
Management plan includes aggressive physical and occupational therapy to maintain joint mobility. Pharmacological intervention with bisphosphonates initiated to inhibit osteoid mineralization. Surgical excision deferred until maturation of the heterotopic bone, confirmed by serial imaging (X-ray/CT) and normalization of serum alkaline phosphatase levels.
