Clinical Presentation & Protocol
Patient Usually Complains Of
Patient presents with acute onset of left knee pain following a twisting injury. Reports localized lateral joint line tenderness, mechanical symptoms including locking and catching, and associated joint effusion. Pain is exacerbated by squatting and pivoting maneuvers.
Clinical Examination Findings
Left knee examination reveals localized tenderness along the lateral joint line. McMurrayโs test is positive for pain and clicking on the lateral aspect. Joint line palpation elicits significant tenderness. Range of motion is limited by pain, particularly in terminal flexion. No significant ligamentous laxity noted on Lachman or varus/valgus stress testing.
Treatment Protocol
Initial management includes RICE protocol (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation), non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for pain and inflammation control, and activity modification. Physical therapy referral for range of motion and strengthening exercises. If mechanical symptoms persist or fail to improve, consider MRI evaluation and potential arthroscopic partial meniscectomy.
