Clinical Presentation & Protocol
Patient Usually Complains Of
Patient presents with acute onset of right knee pain following a twisting injury. Symptoms include localized lateral joint line tenderness, mechanical symptoms of locking and catching, and intermittent swelling. No history of prior knee trauma or instability. Pain is exacerbated by squatting and pivoting.
Clinical Examination Findings
Examination of the right knee reveals localized tenderness along the lateral joint line. McMurrayโs test is positive for pain and clicking during internal rotation and extension. Thessaly test is positive at 20 degrees of flexion. Range of motion is limited by pain. No significant ligamentous laxity (LCL, MCL, ACL, PCL stable). Effusion is present.
Treatment Protocol
Initial management includes RICE protocol (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation), activity modification, and NSAIDs for pain control. Referral for MRI of the right knee to confirm the extent of the tear. Physical therapy initiated for range of motion and quadriceps strengthening. Surgical consultation for potential arthroscopic partial meniscectomy if symptoms persist.
