Clinical Presentation & Protocol
Patient Usually Complains Of
Patient presents with acute onset of left lateral knee pain following a varus stress injury. Reports localized swelling, subjective instability, and difficulty with weight-bearing. Denies locking, catching, or neurovascular deficits.
Clinical Examination Findings
Left knee examination reveals localized tenderness over the lateral femoral condyle and fibular head. Varus stress testing at 0 and 30 degrees demonstrates increased laxity and a soft endpoint compared to the contralateral side. Lachman and McMurray tests are negative. No significant effusion noted.
Treatment Protocol
Initiate RICE protocol (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation). Prescribe hinged knee brace for lateral stability. Initiate physical therapy for range of motion and strengthening. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) as needed for pain management. Follow-up in 2-4 weeks.
