Clinical Presentation & Protocol

Patient Usually Complains Of

Patient presents with acute onset of right lateral knee pain following a varus stress injury. Reports localized swelling, subjective instability, and difficulty with weight-bearing. Denies locking, catching, or neurovascular deficits.

Clinical Examination Findings

Right knee exam: Significant tenderness to palpation over the lateral femoral epicondyle and fibular head. Positive varus stress test at 0 and 30 degrees of flexion with increased laxity compared to the contralateral side. No significant effusion. Negative Lachman and posterior drawer tests. Distal neurovascular status intact.

Treatment Protocol

Initiate RICE protocol (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation). Prescribe hinged knee brace for lateral stability. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for pain management. Referral to physical therapy for range of motion and strengthening exercises. Follow-up in 2-4 weeks.
