Clinical Presentation & Protocol
Patient Usually Complains Of
Patient presents with right lateral knee pain following a varus stress injury. Reports localized tenderness, swelling, and subjective instability. Denies locking, catching, or mechanical symptoms. Pain exacerbated by lateral loading and weight-bearing.
Clinical Examination Findings
Right knee examination reveals localized tenderness over the lateral collateral ligament (LCL) line. Varus stress test at 0 and 30 degrees of flexion demonstrates increased laxity compared to the contralateral side with a firm endpoint. No effusion noted. Neurovascular status intact distally.
Treatment Protocol
Initiate RICE protocol (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation). Prescribe NSAIDs for pain and inflammation control. Recommend hinged knee brace for lateral stability. Physical therapy referral for range of motion exercises and strengthening of the quadriceps and hamstrings. Follow up in 4 weeks.
