Prepatellar Bursitis, Right Knee

ICD-10 Code
M70.21

Clinical Presentation & Protocol

Patient Usually Complains Of

Patient presents with localized swelling and tenderness over the anterior aspect of the right knee. Onset is [acute/gradual], associated with [prolonged kneeling/direct trauma/repetitive microtrauma]. Patient reports pain exacerbated by direct pressure and knee flexion. Denies fever, chills, or systemic symptoms. No history of penetrating injury or recent surgical intervention in the affected area.

Clinical Examination Findings

Physical examination of the right knee reveals a fluctuant, erythematous, and warm swelling localized to the prepatellar bursa. Tenderness is elicited upon palpation of the anterior patellar surface. Range of motion is limited by pain at terminal flexion. No signs of intra-articular effusion, ligamentous instability, or neurovascular compromise. Skin integrity is intact with no evidence of cellulitis or portal of entry.

Treatment Protocol

Conservative management initiated: RICE protocol (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation). Prescribed NSAIDs for pain and inflammation control. Advised avoidance of kneeling and direct pressure on the patella. If symptoms persist or signs of infection develop, consider aspiration of the bursa for fluid analysis and culture, or corticosteroid injection if septic bursitis is ruled out.
