Clinical Presentation & Protocol
Patient Usually Complains Of
Patient presents with chronic, progressive pain, stiffness, and swelling in the left knee. Symptoms are worse in the morning, lasting >60 minutes. Reports associated joint warmth, functional limitation in ambulation, and history of symmetrical polyarthropathy. No history of recent trauma or infection.
Clinical Examination Findings
Left knee examination reveals synovial thickening, palpable effusion, and tenderness along the joint line. Range of motion is restricted by pain and stiffness. No signs of erythema or overlying skin breakdown. Symmetrical involvement noted in contralateral joints. Neurovascular status intact distally.
Treatment Protocol
Initiate DMARD therapy as per rheumatology protocol. Prescribe NSAIDs for symptomatic relief and intra-articular corticosteroid injection for acute flare management. Recommend physical therapy for quadriceps strengthening and range-of-motion maintenance. Follow-up for monitoring of inflammatory markers and medication side effects.
