Bacterial infection of the right knee joint caused by Staphylococcus, leading to acute inflammation.

Clinical Presentation & Protocol

Patient Usually Complains Of

Patient presents with acute onset of severe right knee pain, swelling, and warmth, associated with significant functional impairment and inability to bear weight. Symptoms accompanied by systemic signs of infection, including high-grade fever and chills. No history of recent trauma or prior joint injections.

Clinical Examination Findings

Right knee examination reveals marked effusion, erythema, and increased local temperature. Tenderness is diffuse across the joint line with severe pain on both active and passive range of motion. Patellar tap test is positive. Systemic exam shows tachycardia and febrile status.

Treatment Protocol

Immediate joint aspiration (arthrocentesis) performed for synovial fluid analysis (cell count, Gram stain, and culture). Initiated empiric IV antibiotic therapy (Vancomycin) pending culture sensitivities. Orthopedic consultation requested for urgent surgical washout/debridement. Pain management and immobilization of the right knee.
