Tendinopathy, Unspecified Site, Chronic

ICD-10 Code
M77.9_1

Chronic degeneration or inflammation of a tendon at an unspecified anatomical location.

Clinical Presentation & Protocol

Patient Usually Complains Of

Patient presents with a chronic, persistent ache localized to the affected tendon region. Symptoms are exacerbated by repetitive activity and loading, with morning stiffness noted. No history of acute trauma or systemic inflammatory symptoms. Pain is described as dull and aching, persisting for >3 months.

Clinical Examination Findings

Inspection reveals no erythema or significant edema. Palpation elicits localized tenderness at the tendon insertion or mid-substance. Passive stretch of the musculotendinous unit reproduces pain. Active resisted contraction of the affected muscle group elicits discomfort. Neurovascular status is intact distally.

Treatment Protocol

Initiate conservative management including activity modification, load management, and eccentric strengthening exercises. Recommend physical therapy for progressive tendon loading. Consider topical NSAIDs or analgesics as needed. Follow-up in 4-6 weeks to assess functional improvement.
