Clinical Presentation & Protocol
Patient Usually Complains Of
High-energy trauma (MVA, fall from height). Presents with complex, highly unstable fracture pattern or joint dislocation.
Clinical Examination Findings
Patient is [stable/unstable] in a [supine/trauma] position. Examination of the affected hip reveals [swelling/ecchymosis/deformity]. Neurovascular status of the distal extremity is [intact/impaired] with [dorsalis pedis/posterior tibial] pulses palpable at [grade]. Range of motion is [limited/restricted] due to severe pain.
Treatment Protocol
1. ATLS protocol if poly-trauma. 2. Immediate reduction and rigid splinting/traction. 3. Urgent CT Scan for pre-operative planning. 4. NPO for OR.
