Clinical Presentation & Protocol
Patient Usually Complains Of
Patient presents with a chief complaint of chronic, localized pain over the left lateral epicondyle. Pain is exacerbated by repetitive wrist extension, gripping, and forearm supination. No history of acute trauma. Symptoms are progressive, interfering with activities of daily living and occupational tasks.
Clinical Examination Findings
Physical examination of the left upper extremity reveals point tenderness directly over the lateral epicondyle. Pain is reproduced with resisted wrist extension (Cozen's test) and resisted middle finger extension (Maudsley's test). Passive wrist flexion with the elbow in full extension elicits pain (Mill's test). Neurovascular status is intact distally; no evidence of cervical radiculopathy or ulnar nerve entrapment.
Treatment Protocol
Conservative management initiated: activity modification to avoid provocative movements, application of ice packs for 15 minutes TID, and use of a counterforce elbow brace. Prescribed NSAIDs for inflammation control. Referral to physical therapy for eccentric strengthening exercises and ultrasound therapy.
