Clinical Presentation & Protocol
Patient Usually Complains Of
Patient presents with left lateral knee pain following a varus stress injury. Reports localized tenderness over the lateral joint line, associated with mild swelling and subjective instability. No locking, catching, or neurovascular deficits noted.
Clinical Examination Findings
Left knee examination reveals localized tenderness along the LCL course. Varus stress test at 0 and 30 degrees of flexion demonstrates increased laxity compared to the contralateral side, with a firm endpoint. Lachman and anterior/posterior drawer tests are negative. No effusion or joint line tenderness medially.
Treatment Protocol
Conservative management initiated: RICE protocol (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation), bracing with a hinged knee brace to prevent varus stress, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for pain control. Physical therapy referral for range of motion and strengthening exercises.
