Fracture of the anterior column of the acetabulum (hip socket) in the left hip, initial encounter.

Clinical Presentation & Protocol

Patient Usually Complains Of

Presents to ED/Clinic following a Fall On an Outstretched Hand (FOOSH) or direct blow. Complains of immediate, severe pain, rapid swelling, and visible gross deformity. Unable to use the hand/arm.

Clinical Examination Findings

Holding the injured limb supported by the contralateral hand. In acute distress.

Treatment Protocol

1. Hematoma block / procedural sedation administered. 2. Closed reduction performed utilizing traction and appropriate manipulation. 3. Immobilized in a well-molded Sugar-Tong / Coaptation splint. 4. Post-reduction orthogonal radiographs obtained showing acceptable alignment. 5. Scheduled follow-up for surgical planning (ORIF) vs. definitive casting.
