Clinical Presentation & Protocol
Patient Usually Complains Of
Patient presents with acute onset of left knee pain and mechanical locking following a twisting injury. Reports inability to fully extend the knee, associated with significant joint line tenderness and localized swelling. Denies prior history of instability or chronic symptoms.
Clinical Examination Findings
Left knee examination reveals a palpable joint line gap and positive McMurrayโs test for the lateral compartment. Significant limitation in terminal extension (locked knee). Effusion present. Neurovascular status intact distally.
Treatment Protocol
Immediate management includes RICE protocol (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) and non-weight bearing with crutches. MRI of the left knee ordered to confirm bucket-handle tear morphology. Surgical consultation for arthroscopic repair or partial meniscectomy is indicated.
