Clinical Presentation & Protocol
Patient Usually Complains Of
Patient presents with acute left ankle pain following a traumatic injury. Reports inability to bear weight on the left lower extremity. Pain is localized to the talus region, exacerbated by movement. No open wounds, skin tenting, or neurovascular deficits noted at the time of injury.
Clinical Examination Findings
Left ankle examination reveals significant edema and ecchymosis over the talus and surrounding soft tissues. Point tenderness elicited upon palpation of the talus. Range of motion is severely limited due to pain. Distal neurovascular status intact: dorsalis pedis pulse palpable, capillary refill < 2 seconds, sensation intact to light touch in all dermatomes of the foot.
Treatment Protocol
Immobilization of the left ankle with a posterior splint applied. Patient instructed on strict non-weight-bearing status for the left lower extremity. Pain management initiated with NSAIDs/analgesics. Orthopedic follow-up scheduled for definitive management and repeat imaging.
